About Carrie Wigal, Founder & Editor of Paper It Fun!

Carrie Wigal Carrie Wigal is a 38 year old, wife and work-at-home-mom/stepmom of four. She currently lives in rural Central Virginia and spends most of her time changing diapers, training pre-schoolers, taming a teenager, cooking sit-down dinners, keeping/cleaning house and working online.

History of Paper It Fun!

I discovered PaperIllusion™ a few years ago from my husband. A sales rep. from F. Schumacher & Co. came to the wallpaper store my husband was working in and was demonstrating this unique product. My husband was instantly sold on it, and although he told me about it at the time I wasn’t jumping up and down about it. (For a girl who has spent most of her life around the wallpaper industry, I wasn’t much of a wallpaper kind of person.)

Then one Saturday I popped in on one of these demonstrations being done at an open house, and I was amazed at how easy it was AND the end result was so “cool”. There were a few knick knacks on display (picture frame, lampshade and tissue box cover), covered in the Paper Illusions wallpaper, and I thought, how neat was that.

A few months later, there was another open house scheduled and I was elected to demonstrate this product. At first I was nervous because I had NO CLUE what I was doing, but with my nephews (ages 8 & 6) on hand, they helped me show how easy it really was to hang the stuff. After that I was hooked.

I was shocked to discover how little information there was on this product, and I wondered how that could be…it was so unique. Then I discovered a very loyal following and thought someone needs to spread the word about this paper. So, I started a free discussion forum and newsletter to share all that I had learned about Paper Illusion.

Here we are, going on three years and we’re still talking about how great this product is. If you haven’t seen or used it yourself, download The Paper Illusions Guide to learn more. Then subscribe to Paper It Fun! and you, too will discover how much fun (& easy) it is to paper with Paper Illusions!

As long as you cover it with several coats of polycrylic after applying the paperillusion, you should be fine. Mandie wrote about her experience here: http://boards.hgtv.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/2994011632/m/1111018413

Can this be applied over existing wallpaper? I want to change my bathroom walls but removing is such a hassle.

  • Carrie Wigal // Aug 15, 2007 at 1:04 pm

The manufacturer recommends removing existing wallpaper first.

If the paper cannot come off, others have hung paperillusion over wallpaper before with success, but it’s important to clean the surface area first and apply a wallpaper primer before hanging the paperillusion.

  • roseanna knox // Aug 15, 2007 at 5:30 pm

    why is primer so important?

  • Carrie Wigal // Aug 15, 2007 at 8:29 pm

    Hi Roseanna,
Primer makes the paper adhere better to the surface. Here’s an article as to why Priming Pays Off.

  • Carrie Wigal // Aug 16, 2007 at 10:55 pm

Another point about the importance of priming is that when the time comes to remove the paper, provided you primed before hanging paperillusion, the paperillusion will be the EASIEST wallpaper to remove. Just get it good and wet and it will peel right off! Unless of course you coat it with a sealer…like with the counter top project…then forget it. Removing it won’t be an option then.

I just paid for Gold Membership but can’t get on anywhere. Am I doing something wrong or is there a delay from Pay Pal?

  • Carrie Wigal // Mar 13, 2008 at 1:52 pm

There’s a slight delay in getting set up. Are you a registered user already (meaning, do you have a username already)? If so, I can get you set up pretty quickly. Otherwise I will have to create a new account for you. What would you like your username to be?

I love the look, and my children would go nuts over the idea of helping decorate their rooms with this, but how well would it hold up in a bathroom? Wouldn’t the humidity cause it to peel? We already have alot of humidity in the air (we live on the East Coast), I’m afraid that after a few long showers, our walls would be drooping! Any suggestions?

  • Carrie Wigal // Apr 14, 2008 at 4:35 pm

    Hi Tracy,

Many folks use this in their bathroom. If you do a search on bathrooms here, you’ll find examples of where this paper was used in the bathroom. The problem arises when the paper gets really wet. I suggest leaving a comment on one of the posts found through this link: http://paper-it-fun.com/?s=bathroom to hear from people who have actually used it in their bathrooms.
