Roman Champagne Gets New Look

April 1st, 2008 · 9 Comments ·

BUYER BEWARE: Roman Champagne has undergone a drastic transformation since the manufacturing of PaperIllusion™ has switched hands. See images below…

These two different versions do not match at all.

OLD VERSION (Made by F. Schumacher & Co.)
Original FSC version of Roman Champagne

NEW VERSION (Made by Blue Mountain Wallcoverings)
New BM version of Roman Champagne
(I apologize for the darkness of the images, but it’s the difference in pattern I was trying to demonstrate. Keep in mind though, the color is different as well.)

If you are trying to match the Roman Champagne with a previous purchase, please be aware there is a really good chance you will no longer find the original version of this color in places that do a high volume of Paper Illusions sales. The new version is the only one being distributed by Blue Mountain Wallcoverings (the exclusive supplier/distributor of PaperIllusion™) at this time.

In order to find the older version, it is recommended you search stores that may have some old stock left on their shelves. If any retailer needs to “special order” this product to fill your order, then you will get the new version.

MY PERSONAL THOUGHTS

I have to tell you, when this change was brought to my attention I literally was brought to tears. While the new color could be fine on it’s own merit, the fact that this was distributed with the idea it was picking up where the old color left off really disturbed me.

It would have been better if they just discontinued the old color and produced this pattern under a new name & number. Of course, I brought this to the attention of the powers that be at Blue Mountain and they are “working on it”. They have been responsive in the past, so I am hopeful they will come up with a good solution here.

If you attempt to order this and you find this pattern to be on an extended back-order, this may be a good thing. They may be trying to re-manufacture it to get it more in line with the original color. My suggestion is to order a sample prior to purchasing this color going forward. Do not rely on the samples purchased prior to April 1, 2008…they were probably of the older version.

In the meantime, whatever color you decide to purchase, I strongly recommend ordering enough to begin with. It is a real nightmare for those who have done their project in the old version and found themselves short, only to find the old version is no longer available.

YOUR PERSONAL THOUGHTS
Have you run into this particular problem: ordering more of this color only to find the new color doesn’t match? Please share your thoughts, experience, and/or suggestions below. I will certainly forward them to the current manufacturer on your behalf. A squeaky wheel is the one that generally gets oiled, so let’s squeak away. Thanks. ;)

Just curious if any of the other “Roman” colors have changed? I’m thinking of the Roman Green for my bedroom ceiling, but that’s a project down the line & if it’s going to change significantly I’ll have to plan accordingly! Thanks

So far Green is the only color that is still available of the older version of “Roman”. I don’t know what it will look like if they choose to try and replace it like they did with the Champagne. So if you know Green is your color choice, I’d make sure you order enough to allow for extra, just in case trying to match it becomes a necessity down the road. (And I wouldn’t wait too long before getting it…especially if you know you want to do the project and that is your color choice.) ;)

Ack! Message received! So I guess there probably won’t be any more Roman Blue? (Another color I’d thought of using…)
    Thanks for the info!

They’re already distributing the new version of Roman Blue. I don’t believe it is as different from the old version as the Roman Champagne was.

Interesting - I just got samples from you - naturally I can’t read the postmark but I received them Saturday (thanks!).
Would those be samples of the old Roman Blue (and Champagne) or new?
    Thanks again!

I ordered Roman Champagne on March 6, do I have the old or new version?

  • Carrie Wigal // Apr 9, 2008 at 9:04 am

I honestly don’t know. If you ordered it from Wallpaper Illusions, then it is probably the new version.
