I decided to take some of the craft ideas mentioned in the article, “Holiday Decorating Ideas with Paper Illusions” and try them out with my kids in preparation for Christmas this year. I figured we’d start with Decorating Idea #6:
Recruit the kids to make garland for the stairway or Christmas tree. Just tear strips of PaperIllusion and dip the ends of each piece in warm water so they adhere onto themselves. Join the chain of garland pieces together one by one until you’ve achieved the desired length.
So, I gathered my 2-1/2 year old and almost 4 year old around the dining room table, laid out a towel and presented each child with a small bowl of warm water. Then I retrieved the box of Paper Illusion scraps from my husband…left over pieces from all the sample packs we make each month. And I proceeded to cut small strips for each child to make rings. And I have to tell you, they did a great job!
The easiest part of this project was just dipping the end of each strip in water to get the ends to stick together. A whole lot easier than tearing off a piece of tape for each loop, and a lot “cleaner” and less painful than using a stapler. This was a perfect craft for a pre-schooler and a great way to spend some time together getting ready for the holidays.
When all was said and done, I had the kids wash up…since the glue is not something you want your children to ingest. Besides that, the cleanup was a breeze!
We’ll be putting up our tree this weekend and dressing it up with our new homemade PaperIllusion garland for all to see. My daughter will be so proud to show off her craft, no doubt.
