Covering counter tops with Paper Illusions is a popular, easy and economical decorating choice. But I get this question very often from those who like the idea but are a little gun shy. Will PaperIllusion damage my counter tops if I change my mind?
Lorilei48 posed this question at the forum and Jane Gauss responded with the following (offering some useful tips if you do change your mind) …
The best advice I can give on counters is to properly prep and top coat for durability. Naturally, if they are prepped by lightly sanding and then applying a primer, the paper could not be removed and the counter restored to the original state.
You might want to try skipping the first step of sanding and sealing, and then if you apply the Paper and the polyurethane, that can be lifted off if you put a cut through the poly, then lifted off. If you could get some water into these top slits, then the moisture would dissolve the paste and he paper could be removed.
It is, of course, much more durable and usable if the surface is properly prepared.
