Why not hang PaperIllusion in strips?

June 19th, 2007 · 1 Comment ·

hanging wallpaperThe following question was asked in our Discussion Forum:

I just purchased your product because it was the best wallpaper design pattern out there. I am not interested in tearing and pasting, but I want to apply it in my bathroom as I would any wallpaper. Is this possible?

When I first got this question, I thought, Why not? Besides the fact that it is actually easier to tear, dip & apply in my opinion, why wouldn’t you be able to hang it in strips if you wanted to. Well I posed the question to Village themselves, and they gave me a very good reason why not. I’m glad I deferred to them on this one.

It’s not recommended.

You would need to “book” the paper like you would with regular wallpaper. Also, you will not get the appearance you are expecting. This paper is not a “random” match…there’s variations throughout the paper, and there’s not necessarily a specific pattern repeat.

When you hang one strip next to another, it will give an appearance of panels on the wall because you will not be able to match the pattern horizontally.

I thought PI was a “random” match, but technically a random match means there is nothing to match. For example if you are hanging a vertically striped pattern, there is nothing to match when you go to hang the next strip. That’s not the case with PaperIllusion.

[…] If you don’t like the second “torn & overlapping” effect, then I would suggest going with a regular faux finish wallpaper that is hung more traditionally in strips (measure, cut, match & hang). While you can alter the look of the torn effect by cutting pieces instead of tearing them creating a crisper edge, the paper is meant to be overlapped when applied. It is not recommended to hang it on a wall like you would with regular wallpaper. You can read more about why in the post, Why Not Hang PaperIllusion in Strips? […]
