Paper It Fun!

Okay, what is an RSS Feed, you ask. Good question!

Do you see the orange symbol in the upper right corner of this page with the letters “RSS”? This is a standard icon for a syndicated feed. If you have a “My Yahoo” or “My AOL” page (among a gazillion others), you can have these “feeds” set up to appear on your personalized page by “subscribing to the feed”.

For example, when you sign on to your computer and your “My Yahoo” page shows up, not only will you have the preferences you’ve already set up (like your local weather, news headlines, etc.), you can have the latest content appear on subjects you choose to read about.

Take this blog, for instance. You like, no, scratch that, you love Paper Illusion and want to know the latest info on what’s happening at Paper It Fun!, where we share all that can be done with PaperIllusion. Well, maybe you don’t like email or you get too much email already or you don’t check it that often or whatever…you want to know what’s happening and you don’t want to rely on email to deliver it to you. You can subscribe to this feed (by clicking on the icon above), and “add this blog to your “My Yahoo” or “My AOL” page or any of the ones listed that you use. Then, every time something new is posted here, a headline will appear on your personalized page. If it looks interesting to you and you want to read more, you can click it, and it will take you right to that article on the blog.

Still don’t get it? Go ahead and click the icon.

In the box in the upper right hand corner of the next page, it will ask if you want to subscribe with one of the web-based news readers and give a bunch of rectangular buttons you can click on like this:

Find the one that suits you and click it. It will ask you again if you want to add it. Say yes, and you’ll start seeing headlines (titles from this blog) pop up on your personalized page. When something looks interesting to you, click it and it will take you directly to that page on this blog. And if you ever want to un-subscribe to it, you just delete it on your personalized page.

If you like what you’ve read here at Paper It Fun! and you don’t want to rely on emails to deliver the latest news, and you access a homepage like “My Yahoo” or “My AOL”, I suggest trying this feature out. It’s a really cool feature.
